Location and history

Velingrad – the spa capital of the Balkans is the most appropriate place for your balneal treatment or SPA vacation! It is situated in the west part of the Chepino Valley, which connects the Rila and Rhodope mountains, at an altitude of 740 meters. Legends said that the present-day bed of the Chepinska river was once occupied by a large lake on whose bank Orpheus spent his life. The beautiful nature, the mild and pleasant climate, the 80 and more mineral springs, the 46 balneohotels and sanatoriums, turn Velingrad into the biggest and the most visited balneological resort in Balkan Peninsula, announced for the SPA capital of the Balkan Peninsula in 1999. Here you’ll recover fully and rest among pleasant atmosphere, incredible pure air and magnificent landscapes of Rhodope mountain where the town is nestling.  Together with the numerous mineral waters, Velingrad boasts another natural phenomenon as well — the Kleptuza, the biggest Karst spring in Bulgaria.

Mineral waters

There are over than 80 springs in Velingrad, issuing from 3 mineral water deposits with different physics and chemistry characteristics. The mineral water from the biggest mineral spring Chepino from where most balneocomplexes are supplied, is hypothermal with temperature 48^оС and general mineralization 187 g/l. It has the following characteristics: hydro carbonate, sodium, fluoric, silicon, radon, with hydrosulfide. The capacity of the spring is 70 l/sec. The water is appropriate for drinking, inhalation and bathing. The indications for prophylaxis, healing and recreation are for the following diseases: musculoskeletal system, peripheral nervous system, respiratory system, metabolism, gastrointestinal tract, nephritis and urological diseases, gynecological diseases, skin diseases, functional disorders of the nervous system.

Accommodation:

The five-star hotel is an impressive five-storey palace which has 109 functionally furnished modern apartments and rooms, single and double, with a direct telephone line, TV set and satellite programs, a mini bar, a safe-deposit box, air conditioning, an electronic lock system for the doors, a bathroom with a bath or shower.

The restaurant is at your disposal with 180 seats and a 120 seat summer garden which will offer you a great style and cosiness. The chef will give you a unique chance to choose from the great variety of culinary temptations from traditional local and international cuisine to specialised dietary and eco-dishes.
