Location and history

Sandanski is situated 190 metres above the sea level, in the southwestern ridges of the Pirin Mountain, along the two banks of Sandanska Bistritsa River. The town is located 166 km from Sofia and 74 km from Blagoevgrad.

On the place of the present day town there was an old Thracian settlement that had sprung up near the hot mineral springs. With the arrival of the Romans the small settlement was extended and improved. The famous native that came from the surrounding region of the town was Spartacus, the Thracian slave who launched an uprising against Rome in 73-71BC. The Slavonic tribe called strimontsi named the settlement Sveti Vrach, meaning Saint Healers. Today Sandanski is famous Bulgarian balneology and Spa resort, well-known for the curative power of its mineral springs.

Balneological and SPA characteristics

The resort has healthy climate and has attracted settlers since Antiquity.

The mineral springs of Sandanski are clear, without smell or taste, silicic, mildly fluorine, hyperthermal (42-81°C), with low levels of minerals, hydrocarbonic-sulphatesodium. The conditions in the spa resort in Sandanski are suitable for treating bronchial asthma in its three forms – atopic, infectious allergic and combined. After only one week of treatment, there can be observed improvement in the health and in about 55% of the cases, the asthma attacks completely vanish. It consists of dried and ground turf, fertilized with Fluorine /F/, Silicon /Si/ and Magnesium /Mg/. Torfosol is often prescribed for treatment of locomotory system conditions. 2–6 Day. Breakfast. Free time for relax, SPA, excursions and entertainment. Overnight in the luxory 4-star SPA hotel in Sandanski. You will have nearly a week to enjoy your SPA holiday and get to know the beautiful region of Bulgaria.
